Pre and Post conference tours
Please be aware that a certain number of participants are needed for each post conference tour to go ahead. If you are planning to join a post conference tour you may need to book flexible travel arrangements. Please indicate if you would be happy to be transferred to a different post conference tour to enable a tour to go ahead. Please send the post conference tour fee in the same way as for the conference fee. If you have chosen more than one option for post conference tours, please pay for your first choice. If tours are canceled your tour fee will be reimbursed.

Pre and Post Conference Tours

Group F: Pre and post conference tours

Places on the tours will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. All pre conference tours will end in Poiana Brasov and all post conference tours will begin on 28th September from Poiana Brasov and end at Bucharest-Henry Coanda Airport. F1: Saxon Villages (890 Euro)*

This tour will be available before and after the conference and lasts 7 days. It focuses on walking around picturesque Saxon villages in Transylvania. Highlights include: the exploration of Viscri (a village in the heart of Transylvania with UNESCO Heritage status), its Saxon treasures and the surrounding area; a trip to the hilltop fortress Sighisoara and the surrounding Breite Plateau; the Saxon village of Malancrav and its vicinity; a circular hike via Dupus, Atel and Richis; Brasov city centre and Bran Castle.

F2: Bucovina (790 Euro)

This is a 5 day post conference tour which concentrates on hikes enabling participants to discover the cultural and historical treasures of the Bucovina region. Highlights include: a trip to the lake of St. Anna and its surrounding nature reserve; a hike from the Bicaz gorge across Ceahlau Mountain and Ceahlau National Park; the exploration of Rarau National Park and a visit to the five extraordinary painted Monasteries of Bucovina: Moldovita, Sucevita, Arbore, Humor and Voronet.

F3: Apuseni Mountains (740 Euro)

This is a post conference tour and will take 7 days. It concentrates on hiking in the Apuseni Mountains and their natural, cultural and historical heritage. Participants will visit the town of Turda and the ice caves of Scarisoara and Vartop; learn about the WWF Arnica Montana Project and tourism issues in the mountains; explore Ponorului Citadel; hike through beautiful scenery and go caving in one of Romania's largest cave systems.

F4: Bear trails (650 Euro)*

This is a 8-day trip that allows you to discover some of the most beautiful spots within the elbow of the majestic Carpathians. You will explore stunning landscapes roaming with wildlife, including the wolves, bears and lynx, but also birds like the Ural Owls or Wallcreepers. This is also a territory marked by history and traditional rural life, where you can still see farmers who plough by hand, shepherds guarding their flocks from predators and foresters who are more used to meeting bears than tourists. F5: Danube Delta (860 Euro)*

This tour will be offered before and after the conference. The trip takes eight days, has a focus on bird watching and includes the following highlights: accommodation on a floating hotel, bird watching at many beautiful places, a visit to an ecological fish farm, a walk through Letea Natural Reserve (one of Europe's remaining virgin forests) and trips to many stunning lakes in the region.

F6: Maramures (680 Euro)

This is an seven day post conference tour taking participants to Maramures: a fascinating place in the north of Romania surrounded by mountains and endowed with picturesque valleys. The region is renowned for its 17th and 18th century spindly wooden churches and beautiful hand carved wooden gates, unspoilt nature, fairly-tale hamlets, splendid displays of woodwork, popular costume, country festivals, ancient traditions, hospitable people, hard-working farmers and artisans of old trades.

F7: Retezat (818 Euro)

This is a seven day tour taking place post conference (28th Sept - 04 Oct). It focuses on wildlife observation and hiking in and around the Retzat National Park. Highlights include: Corvinilor castle, hikes through many of the most beautiful areas of Retezat, getting to know Retezats flora and fauna and a visit to Hateg Country, renowned for its unique historical artifacts, traditions and culture.

F8: Danube Delta-5 days (660 Euro)

This is a 5day centre based boating trip in the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve focused on birdwatching and discovering this extraordinary ralm of waters and reed. Enjoy Europe's largest wetland reserve and one of the best places in Europe for bird watching, a natural stopover for migratory birds with more than 300 species of migratory and permanent species of birds.
